Odds Explained
1 in 3 odds is doesn't guarantee a win every 3 plays. It means each play has a 33% chance—like rolling a die or flipping a coin. You might win straight away, or lose 5 in a row. That’s not rigged. That’s just how chance works. Scratchee is 100% fair and our odds are legitimate.
Why You Might Not Win Every Time (Even With Great Scratchee Odds)
Most online brands don’t want to be honest about how their draws work.
At Scratchee, we’re happy to show you exactly how it works—and why.
Because it’s a game of chance, and it’s important you know how you’re actually in the running to win.
We often hear things like:
“I thought it was a 1 in 3 chance—why didn’t I win? I played 5 times…”
“I feel like this game is rigged?”
“How do the odds actually work?”
Let’s break it down in the simplest way possible.
Odds = chance per attempt
Not a guarantee over time.
Odds Are About Chance — Not Guarantees
When we say “1 in 3 odds,” it means every new scratch has a one-in-three shot at winning, not that you’re guaranteed a win every three games.
However, behind the scenes, there’s a fixed pool of tickets. So if you played every single ticket in the game, exactly 33.3% would be winners.
This is a legally required, industry-standard method for running and displaying scratch-style games. We go into the pool of tickets later in this post.
Flip a Coin (1 in 2 odds)
You’ve got a 50% chance of landing heads.
But if you flip a coin five times, you might land heads five times in a row.
That doesn’t mean the coin is broken—it’s just how chance works.
Each flip is independent. And unfortunately, the coin doesn’t “owe” you a tails (even though we all wish it did).
The odds of flipping 5 heads in a row?
1 in 32 – or about 3%.
It’s rare and unlucky, but it definitely happens.
Roll a Die (1 in 6 odds)
A die has six sides. So the chance of rolling a 6 is 1 in 6.
Roll it six times and you might not see a 6 at all—or maybe you roll two 6s in a row. That’s totally normal.
The odds of not rolling a 6 in 15 rolls?
About 1 in 15 players will experience this.
That’s ~6.5%—more than 1 in every 10 players!
So yes, it can feel unlucky—but it’s all just chance doing its thing.
Take a Free Throw
Even pro basketball players who shoot 80% from the line can miss three in a row.
Why? Because even with great odds, each shot is just one try.
Same goes for Scratchee—each play is a fresh shot. Nothing carries over.
What About Luck?
People often say “I got unlucky”—but really, they’re just describing chance.
There’s no hidden force adjusting results. It just feels that way when randomness isn’t going your way.
What feels like a “cold streak” is actually just probability playing out naturally.
What Does Scratchee Owe You?
We don’t owe a win every few plays—just like a coin flip doesn’t owe you a tails.
What we do owe you is a fair game.
That means:
- Every game shows you the exact odds up front
- The number of winners is set from the start
- The game engine is independent and can’t be tampered with
Think of it like entering a raffle. If there are 100 raffle tickets and 25 prizes, that means 25 people will win—but which tickets win is random.
Scratchee works the same way.
The total number of winners is locked in—and every player has a fair shot.
How Scratchee Actually Works
Scratchee games are powered by a licensed, independent game engine trusted by thousands of brands worldwide.
✅ We don’t control the outcomes.
✅ We don’t “rig” results.
✅ We legally can’t.
Every time you play, the engine runs a completely random draw—just like pulling a name from a hat, spinning a roulette wheel, or rolling a die.
How Do the Odds Pools Work?
Great question. When we launch a new game, there’s a fixed pool of scratch tickets—just like in physical scratch-offs.
Let’s say for simplicity:
- 1,000 total tickets
- 1 in 4 odds of winning
That means:
- Exactly 250 tickets are winners
- 750 are not
So yes—25% of the pool wins. But outcomes are still random.
If someone bought all 1,000 tickets, they’d win exactly 25% of the time—but still lose 75% of the time.
Most players only buy a handful of tickets, so results swing more in the short term—especially in small samples.
In Summary
- Each play is a fresh chance.
- Odds are real—but randomness can feel unfair in the short term.
- We believe in fairness—and use certified technology to guarantee it.
- Luck is just chance. And chance resets every play.
- And yes—those “bad streaks” really can happen, even with great odds.
